Hurricanes sign veteran forward Lee Stempniak

The Carolina Hurricanes acquired veteran forward Lee Stempniak on Friday, signing him to a two-year contract that will pay him $2.5 million per season.

"Lee is a veteran, skilled forward who will provide offense for our team, as well as leadership on and off the ice," general manager Ron Francis said in a statement.

Stempniak, 33, had 19 goals and 3 assists and was plus-3 in 82 games with the New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins in 2015-16. He was traded to the Bruins on the trade deadline.

Stempniak has scored 184 goals and earned 236 assists (420 points) in 790 career NHL games with St. Louis, Toronto, Phoenix, Calgary, Pittsburgh, the NY Rangers, Winnipeg, New Jersey and Boston. Stempniak has appeared in 28 career Stanley Cup playoff games, totaling 14 points.
