Hurricane season isn't over yet as tropical system appears

ORLANDO, Fla. _ With 12 days remaining in the 2019 hurricane season, meteorologists are keeping their eyes on a new tropical system, according to the National Hurricane Center's 5 a.m. Monday update.

The system is 350 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands and is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms with winds blowing up to 30 mph on its northeast side, said NHC hurricane specialist Andrew Latto.

The system was forecast with a 50% chance of becoming a tropical depression in the next two to five days as it heads northwest, Latto said.

Forecasters don't expect the system to remain organized for long as it merges with a frontal system after Wednesday and upper level winds should prevent any other chance of further development, Latto said.

However, if it does become a tropical depression and then strengthens into a tropical storm it will be given the Tropical Storm Sebastien.

Hurricane season ends on Dec. 1.
