Natural disasters continued to sweep across America as Hurricane Sally hit and wildfires in Oregon were declared a major disaster.
Alabama officials yesterday warned of “catastrophic flooding” from the latest storm to batter its Gulf coast.
On the west coast, Donald Trump officially said Oregon was in the grip of a disaster, allowing federal cash and resources to be sent in.
The state governor, Kate Brown, said: “To fight fires on this scale, we need all the help we can get.
“Grateful we’ve been granted a Presidential Disaster Declaration, helping provide support like search and rescue, and medical assistance.”
At least 27 people have died in the past ten days as blazes rage out of control in several states, with fears more will perish.
Over 3.3million acres have burned in California alone this year – 27 times more than in 2019 – its forestry and fire protection department said.
Meanwhile, in Alabama, hundreds of thousands were left without power as Sally passed over the state yesterday.
Governor Kay Ivey, warned: “We’re looking at record flooding, perhaps breaking historic levels, and with rising water comes a greater risk for loss of life and of property.”
While the destruction continues Trump continues to deny climate change on the campaign trail for November’s election.
On Monday he clashed with officials in California who said the world was getting hotter to which the President replied: “It’ll start getting cooler”.
