Hurricane Patricia makes landfall in Mexico

Nasa also released a timelapse showing how much rainfall the storm brought with it.

The National Hurricane Center predicted 'catastrophic landfall' due to the hurricane along Mexico's southwest coast, with winds reaching 200 miles per hour.

Patricia has been declared the strongest hurricane ever to hit the western hemisphere as well as the Pacific Ocean's southeastern region.

The storm quickly lost power when reaching land due to upper level winds and mountainous terrain but still caused a great amount of rainfall.

Authorities warned of potential mudslides and floods, as the area around the Nevado de Colima volcano in the state of Jalisco i registered almost 12ins of rain in 24 hours.
