Hurricane Michael: Video shows moment ISS passed over eye of the storm

Nasa has released footage of the moment the International Space Station (ISS) passed over the eye of Hurricane Michael.

Cameras on board the ISS captured the storm as it approached Mexico Beach in the Florida panhandle.

Hurricane Michael has left nearly 600,000 homes and businesses without power in the US with Florida, Alabama and Georgia bearing the brunt of the storm.

In Florida winds reached up to 155mph causing a train to be blown off its tracks.

Two people have died in the US, according to authorities. In Seminole County, Georgia, an 11-year-old girl was killed when a tree fell on her home. It follows the death of a man in Florida who also died when a tree hit his house.

Thirteen people died when the hurricane ripped through the Central Americans nations of Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua respectively.

The National Hurricane Centre is now categorising Michael as a tropical storm with sustained winds of 60mph.

It is moving northeast at about 20mph as it continues to weaken over central Georgia, the agency said in its latest advisory note.
