Hurricane Grace nears Mexico as Tropical Storm Henri heads for New England

People in Mexico's eastern peninsula and America's northeastern coast should prepare for hazardous weather this week as Hurricane Grace and Tropical Storm Henri come ashore, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Wednesday.

Driving the news: Grace is set to reach Mexico overnight Wednesday, while Henri will reach New England by the end of the week and continue through the weekend. Both are expected to cause dangerous storm surges.

What they're saying: "Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion," NHC reported regarding Grace.

  • Grace is expected to increase in strength before touching down on the Yucatan Peninsula. NHC said it will likely issue a hurricane watch for the area tonight.
  • The storm caused flooding in Haiti earlier this week.

Henri, which NHC described as almost a hurricane, could cause "life-threatening surf and rip currents."

  • NHC called on people in the area to keep abreast of Henri's progress.
