Hurricane Erin becomes Category 3 storm

  • The National Hurricane Center reported that Erin is expected to intensify further throughout the day.
  • The storm is currently located 170 miles northeast of Anguilla, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph.
  • Erin is moving west-northwest at 20 mph, with strong winds affecting nearby islands.
  • It is not currently forecast to make landfall and is expected to swerve away from the continental United States.
