Hurricane Energy sells first oil from major West of Shetland operation

Hurricane Energy, the Aberdeen and Surrey-based energy company, has sold its first oil from its major Lancaster field West of Shetland.

Hurricane sold its first cargo lifted from the massive Aoka Mizu floating production and storage vessel by the Amundsen Spirit shuttle tanker.

The cargo of oil was marketed by BP Oil International in line with the off take agreements.

Hurricane chief executive Dr Robert Trice said: "First lifting from the Lancaster EPS marks the generation of Hurricane's first revenue.

“We are now building the cash flow necessary to invest in the further appraisal and development of Hurricane's basement assets.’

The 100% owned Lancaster field is Hurricane’s most appraised asset, with a total of five wells drilled there by the company.

The sale of first oil is the culmination of months of work for the business with production from the Aoka Mizu having been previously predicted to be 17,000 barrels of oil per day.

Production was held up this year after rope connections failed twice while trying to connect the Aoka Mizu FPSO floating production vessel.
