Despite the threat of Hurricane Dorian, FSU's season opener against Boise State in Jacksonville, Fla., is set to proceed as planned as of midday Wednesday.
The storm was closing in on Puerto Rico Wednesday and is projected to strengthen to a Category 3 hurricane by the time it makes landfall in Florida.
Nikki Kimbleton, the director of public affairs for the city of Jacksonville, said the city and both schools are monitoring the storm's activity closely to decide the best course of action.
"We're working to see what we can do. Obviously we're concerned about fans attending this game if we're in the path of the storm," she said. "We're very concerned about the safety of fans leaving the game of staying in Jacksonville for an extra day."
Kimbleton said organizers don't want to prematurely cancel the game because the forecast could change, so city officials and both schools are working on solutions for all parties involved.
FSU and Boise State would forfeit any neutral-site game payout if the game was canceled due to a catastrophe, according to 247Sports.com.
