Hurling hero Henry Shefflin hailed by Late Late Show viewers for volunteering to help homeless

Henry Shefflin is being hailed as a legend on and off the pitch by TV viewers for volunteering his time to combat the homelessness crisis.

The Kilkenny icon is an advocate of Focus Ireland's 'Shine a Light' campaign aiming to raise funds to help the homeless, to which donations can be made here.

A goal of €1.3m has been set by the charity - with €1.1m already raised as people all over Ireland sleep out in their homes, gardens or workplaces.

10-time All-Ireland winner Shefflin last weekend took to the streets of Dublin to give out food and clothes to the homeless.

Posting to Instagram, he wrote: "Last night we joined ‘Kilkenny helping the homeless’ group in Dublin.

"These charities do so much work out on the ground and to actually be part of the reality was something of an experience.

"We walked throughout inner Dublin and met so many people from so many walks of life.

"Winter is coming, nights are colder, these people need our love, warmth and generosity."

And tonight he explained to Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show why the cause is important to him.

Conor Moore tweeted: "Henry Shefflin doing great things off the field now! Top class! @FocusIreland @RTELateLateShow."

The Hill 16 Army account tweeted: "What a decent human being the great Henry Shefflin is. Brilliant listening to him speak about how he helped the homeless on the streets of Dublin and to hear him promoting #ShineALight to help our homeless on the Late Late Show there. Legend."

Buff Egan commented: "Fair Play to the Henry Shefflin Helping to raise awarness for the Homeless. Great to see a Hurling Legend like him doing something that is so important. These people are more Forgotten about now more than ever. Henry still the King in more ways than one. Class act #latelate"

Ken O'Grady joked: "Henry Shefflin wasn't my favourite person back in the day when he shredded Cork to pieces, some player!!! But a top top guy"

And Richard Joyce added: "@RTELateLateShow Henry Shefflin - a legend in every way. Fantastic ambassador for sport #Humanity #realChampion @FocusIreland @SimonCommunity"
