Hurlford United get their battle fever on ahead of Junior Cup semi-finals

Darren Henderson admits he has a selection headache for this weekend’s Junior Cup semi-final.

His Hurlford side are looking to bounce back from West of Scotland Cup heartbreak as they head to Largs in the first match of a two-legged tie.

The West Cup holders were beaten on penalties after a disappointing display against Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in which Hurlford threw away a two-goal lead, but Henderson is confident his side can bounce back in the battle at Barrfields.

He said: “We were up 2-0 on Saturday and should have killed the game off. Adam Hodge was sent off after a second booking in the first half for holding an attacker.

“The referee warned him before the free-kick but he didn’t listen. He let his teammates down, not just because of the red card, but he conceded a penalty which let them back into the game just before half-time. Even at 2-0 up we didn’t play well. I expect better.

“The fact we didn’t have a game in three weeks is not an excuse, we weren’t good enough. I wanted to go into the Largs games high on confidence with a good win.

Henderson added: “I have a selection headache now, I have tough choices to make. I told the boys starting against Rob Roy to make sure they didn’t give me an excuse to take the shirt off of them, but some have left me with a decision to make.

“Largs are a good side, we have had a few close games with us lately.

“But I’m confident the players can lift themselves. They’ll be ready to go to battle with bayonets out.”
