Darren Henderson admits he’s delighted with how his side’s season has started after expecting a difficult ride.
Hurlford United are relying on mostly young players after a number of experienced stars left – but with 21 points from 11 games and the team lying in fifth place in the West of Scotland League Premier Division, he is more than happy.
The Blair Park gaffer is still on cloud nine after a spectacular 4-2 derby win away to Darvel on Friday night.
He said: “I said at the start of the season it might be tough, we’ve had to go down a different route this year with the younger lads.
“Chris Robertson and Paul McKenzie are still here to name a couple, but apart from that it’s pretty much just younger guys.
“I am so proud with how well they are doing, these boys are giving it their all every single week and that’s all I can ask.
“It’s tough with the squad numbers. On Friday we had to ask a boy who is just training with us to come as a sub.
“But I can’t fault anything so far, we are going well and hopefully we can keep it up to build on that and start challenging at the sharp end of the league.”
A hat-trick from ex-Kilmarnock youngster earned 'Ford victory at Recreation Park with Lewis Morrison also on target.
Jordan Kirkpatrick and Andy Stirling struck for Vale who finished with nine men after Jordan Allan and Jason Marr were sent-off.
