Hurlford boss says bagging silverware would be perfect end to gruelling 13-month season

Darren Henderson admits winning silverware would be the perfect end to a gruelling season.

Hurlford United face Kilwinning Rangers in the West of Scotland League Cup final on Saturday – a clash which will bring down the curtain on a whopping 13-month campaign.

‘Ford kicked off their pre-season way back in May 2021, and with the cup final on Saturday, it’s the longest season in memory for the Blair Park boss. Henderson, right, admits it’s been his toughest year in management – but says playing for trophies makes it worth it.

He told the Standard: “It has been a really good season for us, finishing joint fifth was good.

“Then to get to this final, it has been a good season.

“You need silverware to make it worthwhile, but for most teams it was difficult and challenging.

“It’s not been too enjoyable due to constantly looking over your shoulder at relegation.

“Hopefully we can finish with a bit of silverware, it’s what they would deserve for this year.

“Saturday is massive for us, it’s a cup and silverware isn’t easy to get.

“The boys know how hard it is to get to this stage, we need to put everything that’s happened to the side and just go to battle.”
