Hurlford 3 Cumnock 1 as Darren Henderson delighted with red-hot second half performance

Darren Henderson admits he was delighted with three points in the sun as his side fired themselves joint-top.

It was a scorcher at Blair Park, but it was red-hot Hurlford United who impressed with a 3-1 win at home to Cumnock, a result that leaves them with seven points from nine in the West of Scotland Premiership.

'Nock headed to Hurlford on the back of two wins from two hoping to keep their top of the league status intact, but a blistering second half display from Henderson's side ensured that wasn't to be.

Paul McKenzie opened the scoring before Kyle McAusland fired the visitors level.

Then second half goals from Jack Whittaker and Marc McKenzie put the game beyond Cumnock's reach.

Speaking to Ayrshire Football News, Henderson said: "I was delighted with three points, after the first half I probably wasn't expecting that result.

"We were poor first half, and Cumnock were better, the post saved us as did our goalkeeper [Martin McDonald].

"I had a wee chat with them at half time, I told them that they're better than that.

"Second half we were a lot better and I thought we deserved the win in the end, we scored a couple of good goals and saw it out well."

He added: "It was disappointing conceding so soon after we scored, it wasn't great, it was how cheap the goal was.

"He was standing free eight yards to goal, but I've told the boys I don't want too much of that this season.

"But away from that, it's seven points from nine, it's early so we're not getting carried away.

"It's a great three points at home, but I expect us to win our home games, Cumnock have been going really well though so it was good to get the win."

Despite being one of the smallest on the park, Paul McKenzie leapt highest in the 12th minute to head home the opener.

But just two minutes later McAusland headed in one of his own to cut the lead short.

Seven minutes after half time and a stern talking to from Henderson, it was 'Ford who restored their lead.

Whittaker fired home a fine effort to send the home crowd wild.

And then in the 83rd minute all Cumnock hopes were dashed as Marc McKenzie doubled the Hurlford lead to send the Blair Park punters home happy.
