Hurlford 0 Auchinleck 2: Holders set up winner takes all clash with Darvel

Auchinleck Talbot made it two wins from two with clean-sheets as they kick-off their Sectional Cup defence in perfect style.

Goals in either half from Mark Shankland and Keir Samson gave the holders all three points, setting up a winner takes all clash with Darvel on Wednesday night.

Hurlford had a great chance to take the lead in the seventh minute when Ryan Caddis fired a header towards goal, but Andy Leishman tipped it over well to keep it out.

Sam Lidington went close with a free-kick in the 16th minute, but again it was well saved by Leishman.

Hamish McKinlay had a good chance in the 23rd minute when he found himself through on goal, but Hurlford stopper Martin McDonald got down well to keep the effort out.

McKinlay then turned provider in the 25th minute when he whipped a teasing ball into Mark Shankland who fired a looping header over a helpless McDonald.

Marc McKenzie went on a wonderful mazy run five minutes before half-time and crossed well to Jack Whittaker, but he couldn’t keep his header down.

Caddis had a good chance a few minutes later, but he could only fire his shot straight into the gloves of Leishman.

Whittaker’s skilful run in the 58th minute led to him firing a shot that was well saved by Leishman, and Ford failed to knock in a rebound.

In the 67th minute Talbot doubled their lead thanks to a strike from Keir Samson.
