
THE heat is rising in the Hunter, with forecasts Newcastle will hit 32 degrees on Friday.
A total fire ban is in place for the short-lived spring swelter, with a cooler and cloudy Saturday predicted.
The conditions come as a high pressure system sits over the northern Tasman before a brief southerly change on the coast during Friday.
Monday is predicted to again push past 30 degrees before possible showers in Newcastle and Port Stephens by Wednesday.

Maitland will be warmer on both Monday and Friday, with forecasts of mid-30s, while maximum temperatures under 30 elude Scone until at least Tuesday.
