A Garda dog lived up to his name when he hunted down a fleeing driver who raced away from a drugs search.
Hunter used his scent to lead gardaí from Santry to the man before a €20,000 luxury watch he had been wearing was seized.
The driver, who was arrested and is likely to be charged, was sniffed out by the German Shepherd in Northwood.
In a tweet posted by Garda HQ, cops said the driver was stopped in the car on Wednesday for a drugs search.
They said: “Detectives from Santry stopped and searched a car and male driver under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
“The driver was wearing an expensive watch which we believe was purchased with the proceeds of crime.
“The male ran away from Gardaí, however we caught up with him with the assistance of our dog ‘Hunter’ who located the ‘Hublot’ watch worth €21,000.
“[The] male was arrested as warrant in existence for him. Investigations are continuing.”
‘Hunter’ has been described as a general-purpose dog as opposed to a drugs dog who is used in a variety of Garda operations.
Gardaí often use dogs for searches when they believe evidence may be contaminated by a human scent or for looking for items, such as drugs, that have been thrown away by persons of interest.
