HUNTER TAFE NSW staff and students are waiting on details of their learning arrangements for semester two, which starts next Monday.
TAFE NSW's website says it has implemented new measures to limit the impact of COVID-19 and "allow students to commence controlled, campus based learning" in semester two.
"Right now, we are adapting to the easing of restrictions and reviewing how your learning will take place," it says, asking students to contact teachers if they hadn't received details by July 10.
It said there will be other modes too, including connected learning - real-time interactions and following a timetable - plus online, blended, remote or distance options.
The NSW Teacher's Federation's TAFE NSW Hunter representative Annette Bennett said the union understood there were "complexities and variables" and that "one size will not fit all".
But there was still "confusion" about which sections would return to face to face first, which she said was being driven by their risk management plans.
Ms Bennett said while students - who had become "disengaged" including some who had dropped out - and teachers were in favour of returning, it needed to be managed carefully.
She said there were concerns about students without adequate devices or internet access, enforcing social distancing, at-risk teachers and increased workload for teachers juggling numerous modes of delivery.
A spokesman for TAFE NSW said it was "carefully managing a staged approach to the resumption of on campus delivery, in line with the latest advice".
He said modified face to face delivery recommenced for some courses in April and further practical delivery was "expected to return to campus" in semester two.
Other classes will continue with connected learning, which he said had been "well received by students overall".
He said TAFE NSW continued to "evaluate and refine its approach".
Controls include enhanced cleaning, risk assessments by class and campus, a daily checklist of control measures, larger classrooms, distancing of 1.5 metres "wherever possible" and adequate supplies of cleaning and hygiene products. New students will commence study on August 3.
