Hunter New England COVID-19 cases up by one in 24 hours to Saturday night

There were 280 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Hunter New England region as of 8pm Saturday.

The Hunter New England Health District recorded one additional confirmed case of COVID-19 in the 24 hours between 8pm on Friday and Saturday, according to the latest data released by NSW Health.

It puts the number of cases in the region at 280.

The data shows that 21,319 people had been tested for COVID-19 in the Hunter New England region up to Saturday night, since the pandemic began.

According to NSW Health, 218 people have recovered from the virus in Hunter New England so far.

When it comes to the breakdown of confirmed cases by local government area as of 8pm on Saturday, Lake Macquarie had 57 followed by Newcastle with 56, Port Stephens with 34, Maitland with 33 and Cessnock with 24.

Dungog had five confirmed COVID-19 cases while Singleton, Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter each had one-to-four.

Across NSW, there were 3002 confirmed cases, with a jump in testing - 5459 compared with 4840 in the previous 24-hour period.

NSW Health says 2208 people have recovered statewide.

Nineteen people in NSW are being treated in Intensive Care Units - 15 of those requiring ventilators, NSW Health said in a statement.

The state recorded one new death in the 24 hours to 8pm Saturday - an 82-year-old man who was a resident at Anglicare's Newmarch House in Sydney's west.

He was the sixth person from the facility to have died from COVID-19, NSW Health said.
