HUNTER national park campgrounds are filling up ahead of the school holidays, the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service has warned.
The parks authority on Monday urged those planning to visit to book ahead to secure a spot and allow for precautions amid the pandemic.
Hunter Central Coast director Kylie Yeend said
"It's essential that you book ahead if you are planning to visit a campground in one of our national parks. We're still required to operate our campgrounds in line with the NSW Public Health order including taking steps to limit numbers within each campground or accommodation," she said.
"In meeting the guidelines, every person who is staying in a national park must be registered as part of a booking - so it is important only the number of people declared on your booking turn up on the day.
Ms Yeend said Frazer, Little Beach and Putty Beach campgrounds were among the most popular booked so far, but urged holidaymakers to consider less traditional places to visit.
"We know local business has really taken a hit over the past few months and they are really looking forward to seeing park travellers out and about again so why not stop off in town for a coffee and a spot of lunch," she said.
The authority's website now offers guidance for camping during COVID-19.
