Hunter men fined for crossing over from Victoria without a valid permit

TWO Hunter men accused of attempting to cross the Victorian border at various points by car without permission are among five people across the state slapped with penalty infringement notices for alleged breaches of coronavirus health directions.

Police will allege two men were travelling from Ballarat to the NSW border about 5.30pm on Thursday when they attempted to re-enter the state via Albury's Spirit of Progress Bridge without a valid permit.

Authorities told the men to enter NSW via plane and isolate for 14 days, but they were again refused entry later the same night at a checkpoint on Wodonga Place.

Police were told on Saturday that both men had entered NSW and were staying at their homes in the Hunter.

On Monday, Port Stephens-Hunter police attended a Raymond Terrace address and gave one of the men, 69, a penalty infringement notice for failing to comply with noticed direction in relation to COVID-19.

The second man, 68, received his infringement notice on Tuesday at a Newcastle East address.

Police urge anyone with information regarding individuals or businesses breaching COVID-19 directions to contact Crime Stoppers.
