A man is behind bars accused of damaging electric vehicle charging stations across the Hunter and Central Coast.
Dylan William Hyland, 29, was refused bail in court on Saturday, July 11, a day after police arrested him and raided a home at Kahibah.
Police said electric vehicle charging stations were damaged between June 12 and June 30 in Newcastle, Hamilton, Kotara, Wallsend, Swansea, Warners Bay, Heatherbrae, Raymond Terrace, Tuggerah, Erina and Gosford.
Extensive investigations led Newcastle Police to search a home on Hexham Street, at Kahbibah, on Friday, July 10.
Police allegedly uncovered and seized 17 electric vehicle charging handles or plugs, cutting tools, a Taser and several large bags of cabling that had been stripped.
A vehicle police allege was used in the incidents was also seized.
Hyland was arrested at the scene and taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with 10 counts of stealing and 11 counts of destroying or damaging property.
The 29-year-old man was also charged with possessing a prohibited drug, supplying a prohibited drug, possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit, driving while suspended and disposing of property.
Hyland faced weekend bail court, where he made a failed bid for release. Prosecutors said he posed an unacceptable risk of failing to appear, endangering the community or committing a serious offence.
He was ordered to remain in custody ahead of his next court appearance at Belmont on Wednesday, July 15.
