A Hunter man was one of two people charged on Wednesday for allegedly lighting a fire during a total fire ban.
Emergency crews were called to a home at Long Point Road East, Long Point, at about 9pm on Wednesday after reports of a fire in a backyard.
Hunter Valley police allege a 26-year-old man was burning rubbish in the yard, less than 40 metres from a shed that contained potential accelerants including petrol, oil and fertiliser.

The man was charged with failing to comply with a total fire ban and will face Singleton local court on January 16.
It came after an unrelated case in Sydney on Wednesday, where police arrested a 37-year-old man who allegedly used a crow bar to lift a section of footpath at Annandale and set underground wires alight.
Firefighters and police attended the scene after reports of flames coming out of the ground.
Police tracked down the man at a home in nearby Johnstone Street soon after.
He was charged with destroy or damage property in company and failing to comply with a total fire ban.
