Hunter Henry shared some veteran wisdom with Mac Jones after Week 3

Hunter Henry made a point of staying positive with Mac Jones after the rookie’s second loss of the season. The veteran tight end stopped by Jones’ locker. Henry, who played for the Chargers for five years, is no stranger to tough losses like the one the Patriots suffered in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans forced Jones to throw three interceptions in the Saints 28-13 win.

“I just talked to him before I was gonna leave,” Henry told reporters on Sunday. “He’ll be fine. This is all new to him. It’s a long season. We’ve got to move on and not let this snowball.”

Henry’s last season in L.A. was Justin Herbert’s rookie season. While Herbert was impressive statistically in his first four starts, he didn’t log a win until his fifth start and the Chargers’ sixth game. He would go on to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year, and the Chargers are 2-1 in 2021.

“You know, I’ve been in — just for five years — but I’ve been through a lot of these,” Henry said. “But this is a long season. We can’t hang our head and let this linger and snowball into multiple games. We haven’t been great, really, offensively this season and we’ve got to really go to work. It’s a lot of new guys, a lot of us. But there’s no excuse for that. We’re pros. We’ve got to handle our business. We’ve got to be better. That’s got to start this week.

Jones is 81 of 120 (67.5%) for 737 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. He threw all three of his interceptions against the Saints in Week 3. Jones’ progress will be of the utmost importance if he wants to help this team make the playoffs.
