What started as a "perfect" way to begin married life has turned into heartbreak for a Hunter couple, after the wishing well containing cards from loved ones and money for their honeymoon was stolen from their home.
Kallan Bragg, 31, said he and his new wife Amy, 27, had the "most perfect" wedding on May 1 - with a ceremony at the Burwood beach lookout in Merewether followed by a reception in the backyard of their Gateshead home.
He said the day went off without a hitch before the newlyweds retired to a hotel suite at Charlestown just after midnight.
But by the time they got home the next morning, the wishing well was gone.
"We returned at 11am and turned the place upside down hoping to read all of our well-wishes and use the gifted money for our honeymoon, travelling to Adelaide around the coastline with our dog and camper trailer," Mr Bragg said.
"We really feel so heartbroken as we feel our home would be secure after such an event.
"We truly don't know who would have done this, whether it be a person off the street or an attendee.
"It was put in such a location a stranger simply wouldn't have been able to locate it without being found."
The theft has been reported to police, who are looking into the matter.
Meanwhile, Mr and Mrs Bragg have headed south with their dog and camper trailer, after deciding to continue on their month-long honeymoon on a much tighter budget than they expected.
"Money is money but we will never be able to read those cards, which hurts us the most," Mr Bragg told the Newcastle Herald from the South Coast town of Merimbula.
"We have the police now involved and hopefully they come up with something but we are losing faith with each day."
A Go Fund Me page set up by a friend last week has appealed to the thief to anonymously return the cards and money.
Lake Macquarie police confirmed on Monday afternoon they are investigating the robbery.
