Hunter Catholic schools will hold trial HSC exams on original dates as planned

ST Francis Xavier's College at Hamilton will hold its year 12 Higher School Certificate trial exams as planned from August 9, despite the Catholic Secondary Schools Association pushing back its trial exams to August 18 to accommodate schooling changes in Greater Sydney.

Principal Greg Ptolemy told families changing the school's trials date "would simply cause a further unnecessary disruption for our students and would make it impossible for staff to complete our usual timely feedback process".

"We have sourced a variety of independently written trial examination papers that will now form the basis of these assessments."

A spokeswoman for the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle said students attending St Paul's Booragul had already complete their trial exams.

"Year 12 students attending St Mary's Catholic College in Gateshead, St Francis Xavier College in Hamilton and All Saints College in Maitland will all sit an independent paper, commencing 9 August."

The NSW Education Standards Authority has pushed back final written exams by a week to start on October 19.

Students will now receive their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank on December 17.

The main round of university offers will be released on December 22.
