Hunter Biden grateful not to be in prison during Trump presidency but admits pardon was wrong

Hunter Biden has acknowledged that the presidential pardon he received from his father was damaging to both the United States and Joe Biden’s reputation.

Mr Biden was convicted on three federal gun charges over a 2018 firearm purchase and later pleaded guilty to nine federal tax offences, before being granted clemency by President Biden in 2024.

His gun conviction marked the first time a child of a sitting US president was found guilty of a crime, and at sentencing he faced up to 25 years in prison and fines of up to $750,000.

However, Mr Biden said that if he were in prison now Donald Trump would be able to exert an “unjust” amount of pressure on his father and their family.
