Hunter ambulance managers resign amid investigation

Husband and wife duo Kerry and Robert Akester.

Two of the Hunter's most senior NSW Ambulance managers have resigned amid investigations into the Hunter arm of NSW Ambulance.

Separate emails were sent to staff just before 5pm on Thursday informing them that Robert and Kerry Akester - a husband and wife team who managed NSW Ambulance Hunter Zone 1 and Zone 2 - had resigned effective immediately.

In the emails, the Hunter New England's deputy director clinical operations Jordan Emery wrote that he wanted to "recognise and acknowledge" Mr Akester's 21 years and Mrs Akester's 16 years with NSW Ambulance.

Inspector Emery wrote that Sue Dorahy and Luke Wiseman would continue as acting managers for Zone 1 and Zone 2 respectively - which cover stations from Newcastle to Murrurundi.

The Newcastle Herald reported earlier this week that Mr and Mrs Akester were replaced in their roles earlier this month, amid investigations into the Hunter arm of NSW Ambulance.

The Herald reported that it was understood that two Sydney barristers had based themselves in a Newcastle hotel and interviewed more than a dozen past and present paramedics this month.
