Henry Hunt scored a century as South Australia looked to salvage something against Victoria in another forgettable Sheffield Shield season for the Redbacks.
At lunch on the final day at Junction Oval, South Australia were 6-251 with Jake Lehmann (51) and Sam Kerber (0) the not out batsmen.
It gave the Redbacks an overall lead of 219.
Already locked in for the wooden spoon this season - the fourth consecutive last-place finish for Redbacks - the visitors looked set for some more pain as they slipped to 4-52 and a lead of just 20 on day three.
But Hunt showed he could be one of the players worth building around as he brought up his second century of the season.
He was eventually out on what became the last ball before the break, bowled by Scott Boland (2-52).
Hunt had been well-supported by Lehmann who ticked along to his half century just before lunch.
Jon Holland was the other multiple wicket-taker for Victoria with 2-62.
