A European Arrest Warrant has been issued for Gerry "The Monk" Hutch in connection with the murder of a man at a north Dublin hotel.
David Byrne was shot dead after a group, some of whom were dressed as gardai, stormed a boxing weigh-in at the Regency Hotel on February 5, 2016.
The killing of Byrne escalated the Hutch-Kinahan feud which has so far claimed 18 lives.
It is believed the real target of the Regency shooting was Daniel Kinahan, who attended the event.
The warrant for 58-year-old Hutch was issued after the Director of Public Prosecutions decided that gardai have enough evidence to charge him with Byrne's murder.
A European operation is now underway to track down Hutch, who is believed to be moving between Spain and a number of other European cities, Dublin Live reports.
The extradition has been sought by Ballymun gardai who have been investigating the murder for the last five years.
No one has been convicted of the murder of David Byrne.
Gerry Hutch's nephew, Patrick Hutch Junior, was tried in the Special Criminal Court over the shooting but the case collapsed in 2019.
Patrick Hutch, 26, pleaded not guilty to the murder and to possession of three assault rifles.
He failed to get bail and had been held in custody but was released on February 20, 2019 after the DPP's counsel told the court the prosecution “was not in a position to lead evidence on a number of evidential topics”.
A nolle prosequi was entered and the charges against Patrick Hutch were dropped.
