Hunt launched for old punks to make vinyl LP of key tracks from the wild era

A top London record label has put out a plea to track down key Paisley punk bands of 40 years ago.

They want to release a brand new vinyl LP of some influential tracks dating from the wild era of defiant youth.

Producer Sean Forbes, who works at Rough Trade Shops, runs several record labels including Sealed Records.

He has issued a plea via the Paisley Daily Express to try and find any member of eight punk outfits.

Sean said: “We would love to do a compilation LP.

“This would be from the four Groucho Marxist label releases and we are looking for the bands and label owners to get the Ok to licence the tracks.

“We’d also love to make a big booklet of the time featuring photos, lyrics, reviews, interviews and archive material.”

The bands he wants to speak to are Defiant Pose, XS Discharge, The Fegs, Urban Enemies, Mod Cons, Sneex and The Mental Errors.

He has already made contact with the eighth target, The Poems.

Sean added: “ Obviously I’d like to get hold of people from the collective who ran the Groucho Marxist label as well.

“I hope the Paisley Daily Express can help me find all concerned.”

Sean also runs another throwback label called Demo Tapes which puts out old unpublished material on vinyl.

Interest in the old Paisley punk scene has soared recently with the new book The Bungalow Bar by Loudon Temple.

And the incredible times of the late seventies and early eighties at the old Bungalow and Silver Thread Hotel have also been put to film.

We revealed last week that Paisley’s

Brick Lane Media produced the documentary ‘Paisley Punks: The Story of the Paisley Punk Scene Late 1970s to Early 1980s’.

It was made with the support of Renfrewshire Leisure and Creative Scotland and was premiered on the Ren

TV Channel , with screenings at the at the latest incarnation of The Bungalow Bar in Shuttle Street.
