An after-dark attacker struck in a Paisley housing scheme, injuring two young men.
Police are classing the incident in Ferguslie Park as a serious assault and said the victims would have found it “frightening”.
The injured pair were aged 18 and 26 and had been in Tannahill Road.
The assailant struck without warning after confronting them around 10.50pm on Thursday night.
It happened near 86 Tannahill Road.
Detectives have not detailed how the attacker carried out the assault or the injuries inflicted on the two men.
After carrying out the attack he fled on foot and now police are asking locals to check camera footage.

DC Robert Young, of Paisley CID, said: “An unidentified man has confronted and assaulted two men, aged 26 and 18 before running off on foot in an unknown direction.
“The suspect has not been described by witnesses.
“Two men have been injured and this would have been a frightening experience for everyone involved.
“Extensive enquiries are ongoing to identify the persons responsible, including reviewing CCTV from the area.
“Anyone who believed they may have information which could help to identify the person involved or who was in the area at the time of the assault is urged to contact police as soon as they can.
“I would also encourage anyone who may have been driving in the area and recording via a dashcam device to check your systems for relevant footage.”
Anyone who believes they may have information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 4023 of September 16, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 3545.
