Hunt for thug who broke woman's jaw in unprovoked street attack in Paisley

Police are hunting a masked thug who broke a young woman’s jaw in a brutal unprovoked attack.

The 24-year-old victim was out with friends in Paisley when she was targeted by a complete stranger in the street.

Officers told the Paisley Daily Express the man threatened the group with a weapon at the junction between King Street and Douglas Street at around 11pm last night before he attacked the woman.

It’s understood the victim suffered a broken jaw in the incident.

She was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where she remains in a stable condition.

The attack, which officers are treating as serious assault, is understood to have been completely unprovoked.

The man is described as white, around 5ft 5ins tall, thin build with short dark hair. He was wearing a navy blue T-shirt, dark coloured tracksuit, white trainer and had a dark scarf covering his face.

He was seen fleeing in the direction of the railway bridge on King Street.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross, from Paisley CID said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing after a 24-year-old woman was seriously assaulted in Paisley.

“The victim was out with friends when she was subjected to a horrific and nasty assault.

“This attack was completely unprovoked and we are very keen to trace the individual responsible.

“The victim suffered a very serious facial injury when she was struck to the face with some force.

He added: “If you happened to be in the area at around the time of the attack and saw anybody acting suspiciously then we would like to hear from you.

“Similarly we would ask any drivers in the area to check dash cam footage to see if they captured anything which may be useful to our investigation.”

Police have released a description of the yob in hope that members of the public may be able to help trace him.

Officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
