Hunt for suspect after late-night sex attack on woman in Brixton

Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they are trying to trace after a woman was attacked after getting off a night bus.

The victim was followed as she walked home after the pair got off the N35 bus at the same stop in Brixton. She was followed to Station Avenue where the man pushed her against the wall and assaulted her.

Police say the woman recognised the man as someone she had seen at a bus stop at Elephant and Castle a short time earlier.

The man is described as black, aged between 20 and 25, with a handlebar moustache, and around 5ft 8ins tall. He was wearing dark clothing, including a dark hooded top and a black cap with a logo in white letters, of which only two the first two letters, ‘LO’ could be made out.

Detective Constable Alison Downing, from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command, said the victim had been walking home at around 4am on Sunday August 19 when the attack happened.

She said: “The sexual assault he subjected her to has left her traumatised, and it is very important that we apprehend the man who attacked her. We are seeking any witnesses who know who he is or saw him on the N35 bus that night as it travelled through south London.

“If you have any information you think could help our investigation please contact us as soon as possible - all calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”

Anyone with information should call 020 8721 4106 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

  • Addendum 29/07/19: This story was originally published with the CCTV image of the man detectives were seeking. It has been removed after the Metropolitan Police said it had found the man and he had been eliminated from enquiries
