Air traffic controllers lost contact on Thursday with the An-24 passenger plane while approaching its destination in the Amur region bordering China.

"All necessary forces and means have been deployed to search for the plane," Mr Orlov said on Telegram.

A rescue helicopter later located the burning fuselage of a Russian passenger plane, an emergency official said.
