Hunt for man who used counterfeit £50 notes at shops in East Lothian

Police are looking for a man who used counterfeit £50 notes at shops in East Lothian.

The fake Bank of Ireland notes were used in the Aldi and Tesco in North Berwick around 3pm on Sunday, January 5.

The man police are looking for is in his 30s and is described as having a large build. He has a ginger beard.

Police are warning shop staff to be on their guard and check notes are genuine.

Police Scotland said: "Officers would like to remind the public and businesses to ensure that they carefully check and examine any paper notes they receive to ensure that they are genuine.

"If you are handed or suspect you are in possession of a counterfeit note, you should retain this and contact police immediately via 101.

"If you have any information which may assist with our enquiries please contact us 101 quoting incident number 1090 of January 6, 2020.

"Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
