Hunt for man who raped and robbed woman after claiming her bin was on fire

A rapist who attacked a woman in her home after claiming her bin was on fire is being hunted by police.

The man forced his way into the victim’s kitchen in December last year after she opened her door to check whether his claims were true.

He then held the woman, in her 50s, at knifepoint and raped her before making off with her purse and cash.

Detectives investigating the attack at the address in Hollingworth, Thameside, on December 19 have released an e-fit image of the suspect.

He is described as white, in his 30s, and of skinny build, with dark blue/grey eyes, mousy brown hair, a gaunt face and a thin pointed nose.

He was wearing a dark woollen hat, baggy dark jeans and a hooded top, and had a tattoo on his left wrist.

Detective Constable Stephanie Jones, of Greater Manchester police, said: “Our specialist officers have been working closely with the victim since this horrific and predatory attack was first reported to us and continue to do so.

“We understand this attack took place last December but after being provided with further information we have now managed to release an e-fit image of a man we would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

“Do you know an individual matching the image we’ve released or have any information that can assist us?

“If you were in Hollingworth at around 6.30am on Thursday 19 December last year and saw anything suspicious please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 9262, quoting incident number 0589 of 19/12/2019.
