Hunt for man in Santa hat after police officer assaulted at railway station

Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak with after an officer was assaulted at a railway station.

He's captured wearing a Santa hat on board a train.

British Transport Police said the officer involved - a man - suffered 'scratches and cuts to his arm and face'.

Anyone with any information is now being asked to come forward.

The incident took place at Poulton-le-Fylde station in Lancashire earlier this month.

Police have issued an appeal (BTP)

Police said a man 'took hold' of the officer on a flight of stairs and 'began pushing him' before he ran away.

No rank for the officer has been revealed.

He was attending the station in connection with a separate matter on December 16, BTP added in a published statement.

The images are being shared on social media accounts.

In a statement, BTP said: "Do you recognise this man?

"Officers investigating an incident during which a police officer was assaulted at Poulton-le-Fylde station are today releasing this image in connection.

"At just after 11pm on Thursday 16 December, a police officer was attending an incident at the station.

"As he walked down the stairs, a man got in his way and took hold of the officer and began pushing him.

"After a short while the man let go of the officer and ran out the station. As a result of the incident, the officer suffered scratches and cuts to his arm and face.

"Officers believe the man in the CCTV image may have information which could help their investigation."
