Hunt for hit and run van driver after woman knocked down

A van driver is being hunted by police after a city centre hit and run which put a woman in hospital.

Police today issued a CCTV image of a man who could have "vital" information after the van ploughed into her in Liverpool city centre.

Officers also released a picture of the white Ford Transit Connect van involved in the incident on Old Hall Street around 5.50am on Monday, December 9.

The 48 year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital where she was treated for concussion, cuts and bruises and a fractured finger.

Confirming the manhunt a police spokeswoman said: "The male driver of the van initially stopped at the scene but failed to provide any details before leaving the scene."

She added: "We would like to speak to the man pictured as we believe he may have information which is vital to the investigation.

"We have also issued a picture of the van which was involved in the collision."
