A hit-and-run motorist who knocked down a cyclist before driving off, leaving him dying in the road, is being sought by detectives.
The 77-year-old bike rider was believed to have been struck by a white-coloured car shortly before dusk yesterday evening.
Despite efforts by paramedics, the victim died as a result of the crash in Cranleigh, Surrey.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in last night/on Monday evening.
"The collision, involving a cyclist and a white vehicle, occurred around 6.05pm in Horsham Road, Cranleigh. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, at the scene and inquiries are underway to locate them as soon as possible.
"The cyclist was treated at the scene by paramedics but was sadly pronounced dead shortly afterwards. His next of kin are aware and being offered the appropriate support.

"If you witnessed the incident or you have any information which could help us trace the driver of the vehicle involved, please get in touch with us as a matter of urgency."
The spokesman added: "A witness has described the vehicle as a small white car and inquiries remain ongoing to identify and locate the driver who failed to stop following the collision.
"Officers were called to Horsham Road around 6.05pm following the incident. The cyclist, a 77-year-old man, was treated by paramedics at the scene but was sadly pronounced dead shortly afterwards."
A post mortem examination is to be carried out on the cyclist's body to establish the exact cause of his death and the Surrey coroner will open inquests into all three tragic deaths.
