Hunt for gun thugs after 65-year-old shot in terrifying gang raid

Police are hunting for a gang of gun thugs who shot a man in a terrifying robbery.

A group of men stormed a farm and blasted a 65-year-old in the shocking Sunday night attack.

The victim was shot in the ankle and leg and is now in hospital for treatment to his wounds.

Armed police were scrambled to a farm in the West Lancashire village of Aughton , near Ormskirk, following reports of the attack.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police today confirmed: "We were called at shortly before 9:40pm yesterday evening to the report that a man had been shot during an armed robbery at a farm on Back Lane, Aughton.

"Police, including armed officers, attended the address and found the man, 65, had been shot to the ankle and knee with what is believed to be a firearm. He has been taken to hospital to be treated.

"We believe that a number of men wearing balaclavas or face coverings were involved and made off from the scene before officers arrived.

"They are currently being sought by police."

Police have not confirmed whether anything was stolen in the incident.
