The police hunt continued on Friday for the remaining two of the four robbers who fled under gunfire during the failed holdup of a gold shop in Muang district of Tak on Thursday.

Two of the robbers were arrested at the scene. One of them was shot and wounded by the shop owner, a champion competition shooter.

Police believed the two fugitives fled the scene through Wang Chao district and then walked through a forest to the border area in Phop Phra district and then maybe crossed into Myanmar.

Pol Maj Gen Bundit Tungkhaseranee, deputy commissioner of Provincial Police Region 6, on Friday ordered that the search for the two suspects be intensified.

The two arrested robbers, identified as Wichai Sae Thao, 31, and Ter Sae Thao, were already wanted for  a previous robbery. They were named in arrest warrants issued by Mae Sot Provincial Court for a gold shop robbery in Phop Phra district of Tak on Feb 12 this year, when 182 baht weight of gold was stolen.

During Thursday's foiled robbery in Muang district, Mr Wichai was shot and wounded by the shop owner. Mr Ter was arrested shorly after.

The shooting occurred at the Yaowarat gold shop, opposite Tak Pitthayakhom School, about 1pm

Phisit Raphitphan, 46, the shop owner, told police he opened fire as two of the four men shattered the glass doors and tried to break through the security bars and get into his shop. Mr Phisit has previously won several shooting competitions.
