Hunt for Edinburgh Volkswagen driver who left pedestrian in hospital after hit and run

A pedestrian was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a hit and run on the A701 near Edinburgh.

Police in Dalkeith are hunting the driver of a silver Volkswagen following the incident near the Gowkley Moss roundabout on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were called to the scene at around 2.45pm yesterday after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. The driver responsible fled the scene as the man lay seriously hurt.

The 55-year-old was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the hit and run, or who may have footage which could help them, to come forward.

Constable Kevin Liddell of Dalkeith Road Policing said: “We are appealing for the assistance of the public to trace the vehicle involved.

“I would ask if you were in the area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed the collision that you get in contact with officers.

“I would also appeal to anyone who has any dashcam or mobile phone footage that could assist with our investigation.

“Police can be contacted by calling 101 and quoting incident number 1700 of Tuesday, 19 January, 2021.”
