A Mini Cooper was left damaged as a result of the crash.

However the driver of an unknown second vehicle failed to stop and drove away after the coming together.

Police said they have launched an investigation into the crash.

Nobody is thought to have been injured in the incident and police said the road remained open.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Great Homer Street/Oil Street after damage reported to the wing mirror of Mini Cooper at around 6.30pm.

"The driver of second vehicle did not stop and enquiries are ongoing, there were no injuries or a road closure."
