The bodies of the two teens suspected in three murders in British Columbia were found in dense underbrush in Manitoba after a weekslong manhunt, Canadian authorities announced Wednesday.
Searchers located "two male bodies in the dense brush," said Assistant Commissioner Jane MacLatchy, commanding officer of the Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police said at a press conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba. "At this time we believe these are the suspects."
She added that they would be autopsied to confirm that and determine a cause of death.
Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky, both 19, had been sought in connection with the deaths of three people in British Columbia, including American woman Chynna Deese, 24, and her Australian boyfriend, 23-year-old Lucas Fowler. They had been found shot to death in British Columbia in mid-July. The third victim was Vancouver botanist Leonard Dyck, found July 19.
The items in question had been found over the weekend on the shoreline of a river, which led the Mounties to comb the area.
