Hunt for bubble coat man seen running from torched BMW

A manhunt has been launched after a suspected arsonist clutching a petrol can was seen running away moments after a BMW went up in flames.

The distinctively dressed suspect who was wearing a black bubble coat and green hi-vis trousers was spotted fleeing as the blaze ripped through the car which is thought to have been torched.

As the fire tore through the black BMV M140i the man police want to trace ran from the scene in Chandlers Way in St Helens "carrying a green petrol canister", Merseyside Police confirmed today.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene just after 10pm on Friday and extinguished the blaze.

Thankfully nobody was injured as a result of the fire.

Police say a white Fiat Punto in a nearby car park had also been vandalised.

Witnesses were today urged to come forward.
