Hungry sharks devour prey in violent feeding frenzy that 'shook cement pier'

A group of sharks devoured their prey in an astonishing feeding frenzy captured in shocking video footage.

The hungry predators crashed in and out of the water as they fed on baitfish waiting under the pier.

Their feeding frenzy was said to be so violent it "shook a cement pier" at the Surf City Ocean Pier in North Carolina, US.

Onlookers, who recorded the action, said they could feel the pier move, according to The Sun.

The clip, which has been shared online, shows a cluster of sharks in a small area of water flapping their fins as they searched for food.

This story comes after the Mirror reported on a boat captain found a huge tooth that belonged to a prehistoric shark once considered to have been one of the biggest predators on the planet.

Megalodons, meaning 'big tooth', are a now-extinct shark species that once swam in the Earth's waters.

They are believed to have lived from about 23 to 3.6 million years ago, from the Early Miocene to the Pliocene eras.

Captain Michael Nastasio, from the city of Venice in Sarasota County, found the 6 1/16 inches (15.39 centimetres) tooth just off the coast of his home city, while on a shark-tooth chartering trip with his company: Black Gold Fossil Charters.

The area is noted for the shark teeth found on the local sea bed.

After the discovery, Michael said he was in awe of the huge fossil.

"I can't take my eyes off of it," he said.
