'Hungry' Paul Pogba proved he can play with Bruno Fernandes, says Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer states a "hungry" Paul Pogba showed he can play alongside Bruno Fernandes as Manchester United resumed their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham.

Pogba made his return to the United team on Friday after a 10-month lay-off, with an inspired 30-minute cameo enough to claw his side back from the jaws of defeat.

The Frenchman - who has received widespread criticism for a perceived lack of commitment to the club - produced a sublime piece of trickery to glide past Eric Dier, who subsequently brought down the midfielder.

Fernandes - who has been a revelation since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in January - calmly slotted home the resulting penalty, bringing United level after Steven Bergwijn gave the hosts a 27th-minute lead.

It was the first time United fans had the chance to witness the highly anticipated pairing of Pogba and Fernandes, who certainly didn't disappoint.

And Solskjaer - whose side moved to 12 games unbeaten with the draw - insists Pogba is one of the best footballers in the world.

"Bit disappointed we didn't win," he told Sky Sports. "Football is strange. Last year Spurs absolutely battered us for 40 minutes and today it is the opposite. The performance is the pleasing thing.

"First 25 minutes we were very slow. Paul Pogba is one of the best players in the world and it is great to have him back. He is delighted to be back, he has had a 10-month injury nightmare.

"I am sure everyone can see he has great hunger for the game. It is a different team to the one he left when injured. We are a club that want the best players in the world playing together.

"Paul showed he can play with Bruno."

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Solskjaer added: "It is a definite partnership that we want to build on. They have trained together now they have had half an hour on the pitch together."
