'Hungry' opponents give Notts County boss food for thought

Notts County boss Ian Burchnall is prepared for the threats posed by a "hungry" Aldershot Town ahead of their meeting at Meadow Lane tomorrow (3pm kick-off).

The Magpies' National League campaign continues when the struggling Shots make the trip north to Nottingham.

County sit seventh in the league standings following an unbeaten start to the new season.

A 5-0 win over Barnet and 1-1 draws against both Torquay United and Wrexham have put the Magpies into a good early position ahead of the weekend clash.

Aldershot, meanwhile, are lingering at the other end of the table and are yet to pick up a point having lost to Chesterfield, Boreham Wood and Yeovil Town.

Jamie Waller's side have conceded five goals in their first three matches but, despite Saturday's opponents struggling for form, Burchnall is by no means expecting an easy route to three points.

"I expect Aldershot are a team who have been very disappointed with their start and I'm sure they've been working hard on the training ground to get it right," the Magpies boss said.

"They know that they need to come here to get something out of the game and I think they will be very hungry to prove themselves and get their season started.

"I think we'll play a team which is extremely motivated, extremely hard-working and well organised.

"They will certainly not be coming here easy to open up and play against. I think we will really have to work hard to put ourselves on the game."

Kyle Wootton has been crucial to the Magpies' form so far, scoring three times in as many matches, and the forward's talent in front of goal has been a delight to see for Burchnall.

"I've been really pleased [with Wootton]," he said. "Since I've come in he's been brilliant. Not just in how he plays but his general application too. He's a great lad who is hungry to learn and improve, brilliant around the group - that's why he's one of the leaders of the group this year being vice captain.

"I'm not surprised at all that he has started off in the way that he has. He's working hard every day on the training pitch to get better and it's reflected in his performances."

Burchnall has the positive boost of having a full squad to choose from with no fresh injury concerns after the bank holiday weekend.

He said: "Everybody is fit. We had Tyreece Palmer back training a little bit and Lewis Knight was back out on the pitch albeit with the physios.

"Everybody else is in good shape thankfully. It is a possibility when you play two games in three days if you don't manage it right you get some fall-out from that, but I think we rotated the team like we needed to and everybody is fresh."
