The Patriot Games final on Tuesday night sparked a wave of memes online, from MAGA fans and critics of President Trump alike.
In posts from the president’s supporters, Trump was portrayed as a powerful, athletic figure. Meanwhile, those critical of the commander-in-chief and the Patriot Games compared him and the event to the arch-villain of dystopian teen sci-fi franchise The Hunger Games.
The three-day teen athletics tournament, which involved two candidates from each state and various territories and tribal nations being selected to participate, was held in Geneva, Ohio, as part of the United States 250th Anniversary Celebrations.
In many of the posts uploaded by MAGA supporters, American iconography was featured heavily.
In one image shared on X, an A.I.-generated, muscular version of Trump, clad in an American-flag-patterned unitard, swings across bars while a crowd cheers him on.
“READY TO ROCK THE PATRIOT GAMES”, the fan captioned the image.
Another showed the president striding across an airport runway after disembarking from Air Force One, with the words “OHIO IS READY” printed across the top of the image.
“Trump headed to Ohio for the Patriot Games,” the poster wrote. “American kids competing. Commander in Chief showing up. This is leadership.”

The 2026 Patriot Games are a national high school athletic competition for athletes ages 14–17, held August 9–11, 2026, at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations organized by Freedom 250.

A third was showed teens competing in a variety of sports while bald eagles and American flags fly through the sky, all underneath exploding red fireworks.
“One Nation, One Spirit, One Team,” the image, which also depicts huge crowds at the games, reads.
Ahead of the Patriot Games final, though, organizers appeared to be scrambling to fill seats, sending out a “final call” to potential attendees warning them that it was their “absolute last chance” to attend the games.
The White House billed the competition on social media as a celebration of “strength, competition and the next generation of American greatness.”
However, critics have long drawn comparisons between the Patriot Games and author Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games series.

The series depicts a country in which two children from each “district” are forced to fight to the death on television.
One account shared an image of Trump side-by-side with a photograph of actor Donald Sutherland in character as The Hunger Games’ President Snow, a ruthless dictator.
“Trump will be attending the Patriot Games tonight, where a young man and young woman from each state will compete in a series of ‘demanding physical and mental challenges,’” the social media user captioned the post.
Another even cast Trump as Snow himself, dressing him in the character’s signature white suit while sitting on a throne below his regime’s insignia.
Many other posts referenced a slogan used to wish competitors luck in the eponymous Hunger Games: “May the odds be ever in your favor.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom quoted the slogan all the way back in December, in a post blasting Trump and the event.
